Two were arrested after police alerted to drug activity

WASHINGTON – Officers with the Washington Police Department were called to Sundale Trailer Court on Friday after receiving a complaint of suspected drug activity.

Officers came in contact with one of the residents who initially provided a false name and was later confirmed to be 27-year-old Oscar Mercedes-Cruz. Officers learned he was wanted in Daviess County for multiple warrants for failure to appear.

Mercedes-Cruz was arrested without incident and was found to be in possession of cocaine.

Officers then applied for and were granted a search warrant for Mercedes-Cruz’s home.

Officers located approximately 6.8 grams of cocaine, a small amount of methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia.

Mercedes-Cruz. is now facing new charges of dealing cocaine and false informing.

Also arrested was 41-year-old Enrique Tapia-Gonzalez, of Washington, on a charge of possession of meth.
