Local Sheriff’s Departments warning residents of scams

INDIANA – Several local sheriff’s departments have posted alerts about a scam recently.

The latest was from the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, which took several calls on Monday reporting someone was calling saying they were a detective with the department.

The public is urged to be aware that this is a scam and to never give out any personal information to such callers.

Several other sheriff’s departments in the area have reported the same scam.

Scammers are also claiming the resident is wanted on a warrant and requesting money for them to avoid jail time. Sheriff’s Departments do not call residents to tell them they are wanted on a warrant.

Residents who are contacted can also call their local sheriff’s department to verify that the request is legitimate before taking that next step.
