  • 12:55 a.m. Shawn Hays, 53, Mitchell, murder, abuse of a corpse, resisting law enforcement, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, pointing a firearm

Incidents – December 21

  • 12:08 a.m. 911 call in the 600 block of 9th Street. A child was playing with the phone
  • 12:30 a.m. Officers were out with a person on a bicycle at Frank and 5th streets in Mitchell. The male was warned about not having any lights on his bike
  • 1:17 a.m. Officers were out with a person at West Frank and South 7th streets
  • 2:47 a.m. 911 call reporting a house fire in Jackson County. Jackson County Sheriff’s Department was alerted
  • 2:59 a.m. Request for officer to assist at a crime scene in the 500 block of Easy Street in Mitchell
  • 3:04 a.m. Request for mutual aide battling a house fire and two vehicles on fire in the 10000 block of West First Street in Sparksville
  • 3:17 a.m. Report of a suspicious person in the 500 block of East Oolitic Road for an unknown male beating on the caller’s door. Police stopped the male and took him home. The male was told to stay home and stop wandering 
  • 4:15 a.m. Officers made extra patrols in the 8000 block of US 50 West
  • 4:15 a.m. Traffic stop on State Road 37 at the county line. The driver was issued a verbal warning for a traffic violation
  • 4:51 a.m. Traffic stop at North 9th Street and Hancock Avenue. The driver was given a verbal warning for an equipment violation
  • 4:59 a.m. Officers made extra patrols in the 6000 block of State Road 37

  • 11:33 a.m. Request for a welfare check on a woman who is standing in the middle of the road at State Road 158 at Avoca Eureka Road. The woman was offered a ride to town but she denied the ride. She was told to stay out of the roadway
  • 11:48 a.m. 911 call in the 400 block of 10th Street in Oolitic. The caller was attempting to update her phone
  • 12:21 p.m. 911 call at Bedford Middle School. It was an accidental call
  • 12:32 p.m. 911 call in the 100 block of Mapleton Drive. A child was playing with the phone
  • 1:00 p.m. Report of an abandoned vehicle at State Road 37 and US 50 West
  • 1:02 p.m. Traffic stop at Washboard Road at the back quarry entrance. The driver was given a written warning for a traffic violation
  • 1:24 p.m. Police were out with a female who was walking down the road waving her hands in the air at Roots Trailer Sales on State Road 37. The female was fine

  • 5:45 p.m. 911 call in the 800 block of Summit Lane reporting he hit something but doesn’t know what it was in the 500 block of 5th Street. Bedford Police were alerted

  • 11:13 p.m. 911 call in the 600 block of 22nd Street. It was an accidental call
