Assistant store manager faces theft charges

BEDFORD – A woman reported that on November 2, 2022, a Dollar General employee reported they had found her wallet outside the store on Mitchell Road.

The woman reported there was more than $900 in the wallet. All the cash was missing from the wallet but nothing else was missing.

The woman was able to provide police with a description of the wallet, the vehicle she was driving the day she was at the Dollar store, and a receipt for the items she had purchased.

Officers spoke to the assistant manager 43-year-old Amber Arthur who told police she found that wallet and gave it back to the victim. She told police she found it near the garbage dumpster on the far side of the store.

She told police she had viewed the camera footage but was not allowed to give it to police without permission from the store manager.

Police contacted the store manager and who provided the security footage.

At around 4:08 p.m. on November 2, the woman is seen pulling up in front of the store and entering the business. At 4:38 p.m. the woman is seen returning her cart to the cart return area in the store’s foyer. An object that appears to be the woman’s wallet can be seen still in the cart around 4:44 p.m. An unknown female locates the wallet in the cart and immediately walks over to the register area and hands the wallet to an employee of Dollar General who police believe was the assistant store manager Amber Arthur.

Arthur is then seen putting the wallet behind some cleaning products on a shelf located behind the registers.

At 5:01 p.m. Arthur is captured on film rummaging through something before stopping when she is approached by an unknown male.

At 5:02 p.m. Arthur appears to go through the object again and removes something out of it before placing the item back on the shelf.

Police then went to Arthur’s home on P Street to speak to her about her involvement. She told police she was going through the wallet to look for identification and that the wallet had been found near the dumpsters. She declined to add any other information about the incident.

The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office and a warrant was issued for her arrest.
