BNL swimmers split meets with Martinsville

BNL’s Hayden Puckett and the Stars splashed to a win over Martinsville on Tuesday night.

MARTINSVILLE – Bedford North Lawrence splits dual meets with Martinsville during high school swimming action on Tuesday night.

The Stars won the boys meet 146-16, while the Artesians claimed the girls meet 100-79.

BNL won 11 events in the boys meet, taking advantage of Martinsville’s lack of numbers (three competitors). Winners for the Stars included Cole Baker (200-yard individual medley in 2:13.27), Isaiah Conner (50 freestyle in 28.93), Hayden Puckett (100 butterfly in 1:07.66), Ezekiel Eicle (100 free in 1:03.59), Trey Kimbley (500 free in 5:25.62), Ashton Borodach-Mullis (100 backstroke in 1:24.94) and Garrett Gabhart (100 breaststroke in 1:14.55).

In addition, Kade Bailey won the diving with 168.25 points, and the Stars swept the relays. In the 200 medley, Gabhart, Isaiah Eicle, Baker and Kimbley clocked 1:48.98. In the 200 free, Gabhart, Kimbley, Isaiah Eicle and Baker finished in 1:37.83. In the 400 free, the Eicles combined with Kimbley and Gabhart to post 3:46.87.

BNL’s Kade Bailey won the diving competition with 168.25 points.

“The divers all had season-best performances,” BNL coach Adam Young said “Their guys team only had three so we did off events. Hayden Puckett had a good butterfly swim.”

In the girls meet, winners for the Stars included Emma Gabhart (1:01.75 in the 100 butterfly), Shelby Slaughter (6:02.94 in the 500 free) and Ava Lipp (1:09.14 in the 100 backstroke).

“Cookie King had some nice PRs,” Young said. “Their girls team had better numbers and beat our girls.  We have a nice stretch of three home meets now, two of which are against HHC teams, to get us prepared for our annual showdown with Jasper over Christmas break.”

BNL will host New Albany on Saturday.

BNL’s Shelby Slaughter won the 500-yard freestyle race.
