INDIANAPOLIS – Wednesday, at 8:27 a.m. Indiana State Troopers responded to a 911 call of a vehicle in the ditch near the interchange of I-465 and I-74 on the southeast side of Indianapolis.
Sergeant John Haugh located the vehicle well off the roadway, heavily damaged with two adult males entrapped in the wreckage. He immediately called for paramedics and rescue personnel to respond. Sergeant Haugh, Senior Trooper Matt Wilson, and Trooper Nick Cox were able to pull one of the men from the wreckage and provide medical aid.
The driver was still heavily entrapped in the wreckage and Sgt. Haugh climbed into the vehicle and provided medical aid to the man until the Indianapolis Fire Department arrived. IFD was able to extricate the driver from the vehicle and he was transported to an area hospital by Indianapolis Emergency Services in critical condition.
The passenger, 29-year-old Eddie Watson of Greenfield, Indiana, was pronounced deceased at the scene, he was not wearing a seatbelt.
Preliminary investigation determined the driver of a white Chrysler drove the vehicle off the road down into a deep crevasse and came to rest barely visible from the road or any of the ramps in the area. At this time investigators are not able to determine exactly what time the crash occurred.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene to assist with the investigation and recover the remains of the deceased.
