Bedford woman conducts fraudulent bank transactions and is arrested

BEDFORD – A Bedford woman was arrested Friday after an incident on September 12, 2022.

According to a probable cause affidavit, on October 6, 2022, Bedford Police officers were called to Bedford Federal Savings bank on 15th Street after a report of fraud.

Barbara Roberts

A bank employee reported that 43-year-old Barbara Roberts opened a savings account on September 12, 2022. She deposited two checks that totaled $14,200. She then withdrew $5,890 on September 14, 2022, and $2,800 on September 19, 2022.

The bank employees reported the two checks that Roberts earlier deposited bounced.

The bank official contacted Roberts about the situation and she agreed to return the money on October 11, 2022. Roberts failed to return to the bank and did not return the funds. Bank officials made additional attempts to create a plan for the returned funds, however, Roberts stopped replying to the bank officials and therefore a plan was not established.

Police also attempted to contact Roberts and were unsuccessful.

The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosector’s Office and a warrant was issued for her arrest on a charge of fraud.
