Shoals woman swaps price tags and now faces a theft charge

BEDFORD – A Shoals woman was issued a summons to appear in court after stealing from Walmart on John Williams Boulevard. 

On October 29th, at 1:57 p.m. Bedford police officers responded to the store after a report of a theft. 

According to an asset protection associate  24-year-old Natalie Adams got caught swapping price tags on items.

Store officials said Adams had “ticket-switched using 98 cent ornament UPCs that she had “taped” to the original items over their original UPCs. 

“We paused the transaction to have our Self Checkout Host conduct an intervention with the customer to see if she needed any assistance scanning her items. The customer, Natalie Adams, denied needing assistance. Once finished scanning her items, she rendered a payment for the ticket-switched items. 

Adams then headed toward the exit and once passing all final points of sales was detained by asset protection associates. 

After police asked Adams to be upfront and honest, she admitted to not having the money for Christmas presents, and that this was not her first time stealing from Walmart. 

The total amount paid in this case was $8.17, including tax. The total amount of theft, in this case, is $142.33, pre-tax.

 Adams was issued a summons to appear in Lawrence County Superior Court I on November 29, 2022, at 01:30 p.m. and released.
