Two men were injured after a vehicle crashed into a tree on Brown Station Road

BEDFORD – Two men were injured in an accident early Sunday morning on Brown Station Road near the intersection of Erie Church Road. 

According to a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department report, when police arrived they found 19-year-old Alex Casas, of Mountain Grove, MO., unresponsive and laying in the ditch approximately 25 feet from a 2016 Ford Focus. 

Also at the scene was Casas’ passenger Dane Thurau, 20, of Perryville, MO. Thurau was alert but complained of leg pain.

Thurau told police he couldn’t remember everything that happened. He said he and Casas were on their way to Free Spirit Campground and decided to take the “back way”. He said the next thing he remembers was he awoke in the middle of the roadway and started looking for help.

At this time first responders from Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department and Bedford Fire Department arrived on the scene and began rending first aid to both victims.

A medical helicopter arrived on the scene and flew Casas was flown to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment.

An IU Lifeline ambulance transported Thurau to IU Health Bedford Hospital for treatment where he was later also transferred to Methodist Hospital for treatment.

According to police Casa was traveling north when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree and then stopped in the middle of the roadway.

Mikels Towing towed the vehicle from the scene. Damages were estimated between $10,000 to $250,000.
