BEDFORD – Tuesday night, at 9:12 p.m., Bedford Police officers were called out to an accident near Eastside Carwash on 16th Street, that resulted in a Bedford man being arrested for drug possession.

Jonathan Sanders

When officers arrived, they saw two men standing outside of the vehicle. The driver, identified as Jonathan Sanders, 32, of Bedford, claimed he had fallen asleep at the wheel, causing the accident.

Officers noticed Sanders’ poor balance and asked if he had been drinking that day, which he claimed he had. Officers conducted field sobriety tests with Sanders and a breathalyzer, which determined he was too impaired to drive.

Sanders was then detained, and officers searched his vehicle where they found a glass smoking device with a burnt residue that tested positive for methamphetamine and a vape cartridge that tested positive for marijuana. Sanders then denied the request for a blood draw and was then transported to the jail, awaiting a warrant for the test.

Sanders was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangerment, operating a vehicle while intoxicated refusal, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia.
