Inmates painting cells at Lawrence County Jail

BEDFORD – Sheriff Mike Branham reported to the commissioners Tuesday morning that the jail population is down, so he is taking advantage of the situation and having inmates paint cell walls and maintenance is making some much-needed repairs in the facility.

The population this morning was at 115 or at 65 percent capacity.

There are currently 95 males, 22 females, four Level 6 felons and two Department of Corrections and one parole hold being held in the local jail.

“Because the numbers are down we have some flexibility and we have six or seven inmates painting cell blocks,” added Sheriff Branham. “The upstairs level is completed.”
