Mitchell Community School Board trustees pass the 2023 budget

MITCHELL – The Board of Trustees of Mitchell Community Schools met for the Budget Hearing at 5:00 p.m.
on Monday, August 29, 2022, in the Administration Center of Mitchell Community Schools located at 441
North 8th Street, in Mitchell.

Members present were: Christopher Shaw, Crystal Mikels, Steve Burton, Cynthia Brooking, and Patrick Redman, along with Superintendent Dr. Brent Comer and Assistant Superintendent Ms. Jessica Jones. Attorney Greg Pittman was absent.

President Shaw called the special session to order and opened the meeting.

Dr. Comer reported that the 2023 budget was posted in the Times-Mail and on the MCS website on August 10, 2022. MCS Treasurer, Malinda Powell submitted Form 3 on Gateway on July 2, 2022. He also reported that an adoption recommendation is scheduled for the September 1, 2022, regular session board meeting.

Dr. Comer reported that the 2023 advertised tax rate would be 1.5712 which is a slight decrease from the 1.6519 tax rate advertised in 2022.

Shaw asked for public comment concerning the Proposed 2023 Budgets for General Fund, Debt Service, Rainy Day Fund, Capital Projects Plan and Budget, Bus Replacement Plan, and Transportation Operating Fund.

Hearing no other comments from the public, President Shaw closed the hearing.

Burton made motion and Redman seconded a motion to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried 5-0.
