Brown County Sheriff warning motorist to leave nothing of value in their vehicles

BROWN CO. — Investigators are warning of a theft and fraud scheme taking place in Brown County.

Brown County Sheriff D. Scott Southerland flagged its Facebook followers on Wednesday to warn of the scheme.

Sherif Seidl says thieves are breaking into cars at gas stations, parks, golf courses, and fitness centers, among other places, to steal credit cards. They are taking the stolen credit cards to Sam’s Club and Costco and spending thousands of dollars on gift cards. 

“With the fall season soon upon us, we are expecting this ring of thieves to target us again,” the sheriff said.

The sheriff’s department suggests that you leave nothing of value unattended in your vehicle.
