BEDFORD – The 2022-2023 Academic school year is quickly approaching, and parents have an important decision to make when it comes to the education of their child. St. Vincent de Paul School is still accepting enrollment for the start of the school year on August 10th, and with a fully staffed faculty, they can provide a learning environment in which every student feels safe, loved, and motivated to succeed.
Teresa Underwood, principal at St. Vincent School (SVS) wants parents to know that the education St. Vincent provides is available to all families. “With a tradition of excellence for more than 150 years, we have the benefit of experience and expertise in a well-established and trusted setting. Couple that with a mission to develop the academic and spiritual potential in every child and you’ve got a winning formula in faith-based education that extends to all faith traditions.”
Some common assumptions about Catholic school are that it is private and unaffordable. SVS is not exclusive and there are several opportunities for tuition assistance. “I think the idea of tuition in a non-public school might seem like an additional financial burden or challenge. Many parents don’t realize that there is funding that covers up to 90% of the cost of tuition and in many cases it’s free.”
Underwood adds, “There’s a very simple process through the School Choice Voucher program that uses income guidelines based on number of people in the household. The thresholds are surprisingly high so a large percentage of our families qualify.”
SVS offers a multitude of extracurricular activities for students. The school has built a competitive athletic program at both the elementary and intermediate levels that include tennis, volleyball, cross country, basketball, and track. St. Vincent students have opportunities to participate and compete on strong academic teams like Spellbowl, Mathbowl, Science Olympiad, and Lego League Robotics. There is something for everybody. Students are encouraged to participate in familiar activities and those that might be a new challenge.
With the broad opportunities that are part of the education, St. Vincent provides, one of the most impactful aspects of the school is the sense of family that is cultivated.
“We often describe the culture and climate at St. Vincent as that of a family. We have many students that come to us in preschool and stay through eighth grade. So, they very literally feel like brothers and sisters. The familial climate is also fostered through a shared commitment to the school mission. When you have that kind of partnership among teachers, parents, and students it is reflected in the culture and success of the school.”
