Hutchinson cards 70 as Stars finish fifth at Champions Pointe

BNL’s Trevin Hutchinson fired a 2-under 70 in the Providence Invitational on Saturday.

HENRYVILLE – Bedford North Lawrence’s Trevin Hutchinson carded a 2-under 70 as the Stars finished tied for fifth in the loaded Providence Invitational at Champions Pointe on Saturday.

The Stars fired a team total of 310 on the course that will host the IHSAA regional. No.3 Bloomington South won the event with 285, followed by No.12 Silver Creek (288), No.13 Evansville North (295), and No.5 Center Grove (301).

Hutchinson started on the back nine and made the turn at 1-over with a birdie on 12 and consecutive bogeys on holes 15-16. But he caught fire on the front, posting birdies on the second, third and seventh holes.

Jett Jones finished with 78, while Tyler Bellush and Houston Corbin completed the BNL scoring with 81s.

“Trevin played really well, came out of his slump,” BNL coach Jeff Hein said. “Firing a 70 is a really good score.

“That was a great team score. We beat some good teams today. It will take low scores with qualify for the state finals in that regional to get out as a team. We left a few out there, and we will have to find a way to trim a few more.”

Silver Creek’s Carter Smith was medalist with a 6-under 66 while South’s Happy Gilmore posted a 68.

BNL will compete in the IHSAA sectional at Cascades in Bloomington on June 6.
