Stonegate Arts Camps for kids coming to downtown Bedford

BLOOMINGTON— The Center for Lifelong Learning at Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington is partnering with Stonegate Arts & Education Center, Bedford Public Library, The City of Bedford, and United Way of South Central Indiana to offer one-week art camps for kids ages 7-16 in downtown Bedford starting June 27.

New this year, Stonegate Arts Camps will bring opportunities to Lawrence County for youth to get creative, perform on stage, and explore the arts this summer in downtown Bedford.

Stonegate Performing Arts Camp for ages 12-16 will explore the dramatic arts through performance, while also exploring other facets of creating theater productions, including auditions, the rehearsal process, technical theater, costuming, makeup, and stagecraft. The week will culminate in a live stage performance for everyone at Stonegate’s black box theater, Brinegar Hall.

For younger artists ages 7-11, Stonegate Visual Arts Camp will bring the Ivy Arts for Kids model of exploratory arts to Bedford with “Celebrate Our Community” themes and hands-on art projects in both 2D and 3D. The week culminates with an art show at the Stonegate Arts & Education Center, where family and friends will get to see their young artist’s creations on display.

Located at the Stonegate Arts & Education Center, youth arts camps will feature operational support from Bedford Public Library, transportation assistance from The City of Bedford for campers located within city limits, and scholarship opportunities that cover the cost of camp, with the support of United Way of South Central Indiana.

Both camps will be held from June 27 through July 1, with Visual Arts from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Performing Arts from 1 p.m. to 4 pm.
