State Road 135 bridge over Kiper Creek is closing today in Jackson County

JACKSON CO. — Indiana Department of Transportation contractor E&B Paving Inc. plans to close the State Road 135 bridge over Kiper Creek today (April 12) in Jackson County. The bridge is located 2.72 miles north of S.R. 58 near County Road 890 North and will close for up to 120 days for a full replacement project.

The project is part of a $2.3 million construction contract awarded in August 2020. Traffic will be detoured onto S.R. 46, I-65, and S.R. 58 during the closure. The start date for the closure has been accelerated due to pavement repairs north of the bridge.

S.R. 135 Pavement Repairs
INDOT maintenance crews closed the southbound lane of S.R. 135 last week north of the bridge over Kiper Creek to complete emergency pavement repairs. The location of the repairs is approximately two miles south of the Brown County line, between C.R. 890 N. and C.R. 1000 N.

This section of S.R. 135 remains one lane with stop signs and portable message boards placed at each end of the lane closure. Traffic will alternate using the northbound lane while repairs are made. A timeline for the work will be announced once finalized.

INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, avoid distractions, and consider worker safety when traveling through active work zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
