Man arrested after domestic fight captured on video camera

BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested Thursday after Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a domestic fight on Thursday, April 7th.

Brent Covey

Police detained 26-year-old Brent Covey, on charges of domestic battery and strangulation.

Officers responded to a report of a physical altercation between a male and female after a woman called reporting she was watching the altercation live on a security camera in the 1510 block of  Trogdon Lane.

The caller said the male got into a green Chevrolet pickup and left the scene but the female was still there.

When officers arrived they found the female sitting on the ground. The officer requested the female to speak to him about the reported incident. The woman was distraught about what happened between her and her boyfriend.

The officer said there were red marks under her chin and on her neck.

The woman told police the argument started at a home in the 160 block of Old Needmore School Road after Covey lost his wallet which contained approximately sixty dollars. The woman said the argument was “getting out of hand so she left and began walking”.

The woman ended up at the church on Trogdon Lane. Covey arrived a short time later and demanded she get back in the truck and help him look for his wallet.

The woman said no and Covey picked her up by the hood of her sweatshirt and attempted to drag her back into the vehicle and attempted to silence her by putting his hands over her mouth until she couldn’t breathe.  She attempted to fight back and he slammed her to the ground.

Officers went back to the home on Old Needmore School Road to speak to Covey. He admitted he was upset about losing his wallet. He told the officer there was a physical altercation and admitted he grabbed the woman by the shirt attempting to get her back up to his vehicle. He also admitted to putting his hands on her mouth because she was screaming.

Covey admitted he did grab the woman by the neck, but only after the woman had grabbed him by his neck while he was attempting to drag the woman back up to his vehicle.

Covey was detained on charges of domestic battery and strangulation.
