Obituary: Wilma J. Fields


January 5, 1938 – March 26, 2022

Wilma J. Fields, 84, of Bedford, died on Saturday, March 26th at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bedford.

Born January 5, 1938, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Floyd Thompson and Gertie Nicholson Thompson. She married William D. Fields on February 22, 1958, and he survives. She was a graduate of Oolitic High School with the class of 1956 and a homemaker. She enjoyed quilting, crafting, and painting. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Wilma was a member of the Midtown Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, William “Willie” of Bedford; one son, Scott Fields and wife Dana, of Greenwood; one daughter, Lisa Tran and husband Quang, of Bedford; six grandchildren, Matt Fields of Greenwood, Kelcey Scheidler and husband Nick, of Arkansas, Shelby Fields, of Greenwood, Chad Kelker and wife Alyssa, of Florida, Lindsey Johnson and husband Ryan, of Florida, and Zach Tran and wife Emily, of Indianapolis; four great-grandchildren, Malaki Kelker,
Seth Kelker, Paisley Kelker, Vivienne Scheidler, and one great-grandson due in May; and one sister, Maxine Woodward, of Charlestown.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd, and Gertie Thompson; one brother, Raymond; and five sisters, Opal, Faye, Betty, Annie, and Dorothy.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2022, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Brother Rick Leach officiating. Burial will follow in Dive Christian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the hour of service on Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
