Arrest made when police find drugs and weapons

COLUMBUS – A Scipio man was arrested early this morning on drug-related charges after being stopped by a Batholomew County Sheriff’s Department deputy on a traffic violation.

According to police, the deputy pulled over 36-year-old Jason Austin just after midnight near 8th Street and Central Avenue.

Police say Austin did not have a valid driver’s license. A Columbus Police Department canine alerted officers to drugs in the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle uncovered drugs, drug paraphernalia, a rifle, and a handgun.

Austin is facing preliminary charges of possession of cocaine, marijuana, and a controlled substance, a legend drug, and drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a syringe, as well as driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction.
