Bedford Board of Works and Safety approved fire department staffing changes and mowing contract

BEDFORD – During the Bedford Board of Works and Safety meeting Tuesday afternoon, the board approved the mowing contract for the City as well as staffing changes in the Fire Department.

Fire Chief John Hughes addressed the board in reference to the retirement of Battalion Chief Kenny Tumey. Tumey served for the past 29 years and will officially retire on January 8th, 2022.

In response to this retirement, multiple staffing changes needed to be made within the department, to fully serve the community.

The changes include:

  • Captain Bruce Deckard was promoted to the role of Battalion Chief
  • Lieutenant Jeff Armstrong was promoted to Captain
  • Senior Firefighter David Zeeks was promoted to Lieutenant
  • Firefighter First Class Jeremy Nolan was promoted to Senior Firefighter

These staffing adjustments and the retirement of Tumey were accepted by the board.

Bedford Street Commissioner David Flinn

Next on the agenda Street Commissioner David Flinn requested the acceptance of the mowing contract for the City of Bedford, by James and Barbara Baxter.

The contract is on a year-by-year basis and needs the approval of the board to fulfill the 47 locations that are handled by the Baxter’s. This year’s contract will be for a total of $49,500.

The contract was also accepted by the board, before adjourning.
