Seymour shuts down BNL 2-0

SEYMOUR – Donovyn Thomas scored twice and Seymour’s defense shut down Bedford North Lawrence for a 2-0 victory during boys high school soccer action on Thursday.

Thomas scored a goal in each half, and the Stars managed only two shots. Seymour goalie William Smith had to make only one save.

“We were trying to counter,” BNL coach Logan Jackson said. “They were pushing a lot of guys up, and we tried too much with long balls. We couldn’t string passes together.

“Our effort was there, we played well until we got worn down. We made some mistakes at bad times, and that was our downfall.”

Thomas scored off a Mauricio Aragon assist at 8:27 of the first half, then struck again with 24:39 left (on a Gabe Baker assist) in the second as the Owls improved to 8-4-2 overall (4-2-0 in the Hoosier Hills Conference).

The Stars (6-5-2, 1-4-0) will host Floyd Central in the regular-season finale on Saturday.
