Herbert “Max” Abel


November 27, 1946 – September 20, 2021

Herbert “Max” Abel, 74, of Bedford, passed away at 12:38 am on Monday, September 20, 2021, at I.U. Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born November 27, 1946, in French Lick, he was the son of Preston and Luella (Collins) Abel. He married Barbara Hall on July 30, 1966, and she preceded him in death. He retired from Cummins Engine Co. after thirty-one years of service. He was a retired pastor of the House of Prayer.

Survivors include a daughter, Theresa Abel, of Mitchell; two sons, Bryan Abel, and wife, Carla, of Medora and
Matthew Abel, of Bedford; two sisters, Kathy Cornwall, of Sacramento, CA, and Kay Pruett, of Bedford; three brothers, Garrett “Wayne” Abel, of Calvert City, KY, David Abel, of Bedford, and Terry Abel, of Harrodsburg; five grandchildren, Jered Abel, Jordan Abel, Bricyn Abel, Brandyn Abel, and Jessica Abel; eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and five brothers, Darrell, Billy, Eugene, Ralph, and Larry Abel; two sisters, Joy Stearns and Alice Farris.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 25th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Bro. Larry Dalton officiating. Burial will follow in Byers-Rainbolt Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 24th and from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Saturday, September 25th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
