Stars win tough points to top JC

NORTH VERNON – Bedford North Lawrence’s Nate Pemberton and Caleb Jones pulled out a tough three-set victory as the Stars clipped Jennings County 3-2 during boys high school tennis action on Tuesday.

Pemberton and Jones bounced back from a second-set tiebreaker setback to edge Greyson Jackson and Jansen McDonald 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2 for the deciding team point.

”This was a really nice win,” BNL coach Chris Kurtz said. “These experiences with close matches and tiebreakers are helping them learn to play with pressure. We talk about it a lot, but it’s just one of those things you have to go through. I can see big differences in how they are responding already.”

“Last night it was our doubles and No.1 singles, tonight it was Graham and Carter who stepped up and got the wins.”

The Stars won the lower singles with Graham Turner topping Alex Leach 6-4, 6-2 at No.2, and with Carter Kimmel edging Gage Gasper 7-6 (7-2 in the tiebreaker), 6-4 at No.3.

Jennings took the top-of-the-lineup matches. Owen Law conquered Steven Graham 6-3, 6-1 at No.1 singles. Jacob Vogel and Justin Ramey fought off Cameron Gratzer and Jayden Kemp 6-4, 6-4 at No.1 doubles.

BNL (3-4) will visit Brown County on Thursday.
