Applications available for a judicial position in St. Joseph County

ST. JOSEPH CO. – The St. Joseph County Judicial Nominating Commission is beginning the process of selecting a new superior court judge. Judge David C. Chapleau retired in July 2021, creating a vacancy on the St. Joseph Superior Court.

Commission Chairman and Indiana Supreme Court Justice Geoffrey Slaughter announced applications for the positions are available online and must be submitted through the Indiana Courts Portal by Monday, August 16 at 12:00 p.m. (Eastern).

According to Indiana law, the Commission is required to submit to the Governor “the five most highly qualified candidates from among those eligible” for the appointment when a vacancy arises.

The names of candidates applying for the office are confidential according to Indiana statute.

The list of five nominees selected by the Commission is expected to be publicly announced sometime in August following confidential interviews.
