Bedford Police deploy taser on a wanted and fleeing man

BEDFORD – Bedford Police deployed a taser Thursday afternoon on a man who was fleeing from police officers who was wanted on a warrant.

At 2:49 p.m. Thursday, Bedford Police officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Oolitic Road for a 911 investigation. When the 911 call was transferred from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department they advised them that a Robert Philpott, age 39, had an active warrant for failure to appear.

Officers located Philpott and attempted to make contact with him. However, he ran from police into a wooded area. Police were able to locate him near a creek where Philpott again, began to run from police.

Philpott reached in the small of his back and an officer deployed his taser.

A Seals ambulance was contacted to remove the taser barbs.

Philpott was taken to Lawrence County Jail for the active warrant and also charged with resisting law enforcement by fleeing.
