BEDFORD – A press release from North Lawrence Community Schools’ Attorney Greg Pittman states Rusty Garrison has resigned as a school board member in District 3.

On June 23, 2021, Rusty Garrison submitted his resignation from the NLCS School board of Trustees.

Indiana Code 20-23-4-20 (c) states that if there is a vacancy on the governing body for any reason the remaining members of the governing body shall by a majority vote to fill the vacancy within 30 days by appointing a person from within the boundaries of the community school corporation to serve for the balance of the term or balance of the term.

An individual appointed under this subsection must possess the qualifications provided for a regular elected or appointed governing body member filling the office.

If a tie vote occurs among the remaining members of the board or the remaining members fail to fill the vacancy on the board within 30 days, the judge of the circuit court shall make an appointment to fill the vacancy under Indiana Code 20-23-4-30(c) 1 -2.

North Lawrence Community School District 3 covers Guthrie and part of Shawswick Township

The board shall seek qualified and interested candidates from the community through the news media, word of mouth, and contacts with the appropriate organizations. All applicants are to submit a notice of their interest, in writing, to the NLCS board president via the school’s website, email or regular U.S. Mail. If you would like to submit your interest, by U.S. Mail, please mail it to NLCS Board President, 460 W Street, Bedford, IN. 47421.

All applications should include the person’s contact information and a description of qualifications. The deadline for submitting an application to the NLCS Adminstration Office is July 9, 2021 at 4:00 p.m.

The vacant seat is for District 3 and a map of the district is located on the NLCS website, www.nlcs.K12.in.us. After the deadline, the NLCS school board members will consider all applications and make one initial exclusion of prospective appointees during an open public meeting as required by Indiana Code 5-14-1.5-6.1 (b)(10).

The new board member will serve until December 31, 2022. The seat for District 3 will be up for election in November 2022.

The school board will vote to approve the new board member on July 22, 2021.
