Jerry Wayne Lewis

December 6, 1938 – May 17, 2021

Jerry Wayne Lewis, 82, of Springville, passed away at 11:57 p.m. on Monday, May 17, 2021, at his residence.

Born December 6, 1938, in Oolitic, he was the son of Owen Wayne and Esther Mae (Cobb) Lewis. He married Donna Kay Horn on June 21, 1957, and she survives. He retired as a machine operator after 27 years at General Motors. He had been a stonecutter at Indiana Limestone Co. and other stone mills for over 20 years. He was a member of the Oolitic Baptist Church, the Patriot Lodge 750 F & AM, Scottish Rite, and York Rite. He was a constant fan of

BNL Athletics and was instrumental in establishing Oolitic Biddy Ball and the Oolitic Boys Baseball League. He coached basketball at Shawswick and Oolitic Middle Schools and refereed for high school basketball for many years. Nothing was more important than his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Kay Lewis, of Springville; two sons, Jim Lewis, and wife, Debbie, of Avoca and Mike Lewis, of Oolitic; five grandchildren, Sarah Folmer and husband, William, of Oolitic, Tyler Wayne Lewis and wife, Kayla, of Oolitic, Allen Lewis, of Avoca, Kaleigh Lewis, of Oolitic, and Owen Lewis, of Oolitic; four great-grandchildren, Jamey and Molly Folmer, Evan and Reed Lewis; cousins, Jack Cobb, Sherry Griffin, Sheila Gilbert, and Susan Tirey.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 22nd in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Richard Tallman and Taylor Quinley officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 21st at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Masonic services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. on Friday by the Oolitic Patriot Lodge #750 F and AM.
