BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested Wednesday after a Bedford Police canine and his handler were called to assist Lawrence County Probation officers at a home in the 2630 block of Washington Avenue.
During a search of the home, canine Zazu alerted his handler to the presence of drugs in an area under a dresser and made a second alert on a nightstand against a bedroom wall.
Inside the nightstand the officers located a green and black digital scale as well as a red cut straw with meth residue on them.
Under the dresser, the officers found a silver and black metal case that contained several empty zip-lock style baggies and a case with two glass smoking devices which tested positive for meth.

Police arrested 48-year-old Troy Pate on charges of possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Pate denied the items belonged to him.
