BNL rolls to 4-1 victory at Madison

BNL’s Emily Duncan posted a win at No.2 singles as the Stars stopped Madison 4-1 in the consolation round of the HHC tournament on Wednesday.

MADISON – Bedford North Lawrence advanced to the consolation bracket final with a 4-1 victory over Madison during the second round of the Hoosier Hills Conference tournament on Wednesday.

The Stars (7-7) swept the doubles while moving on to the fifth-place match at Jennings County on Friday.

BNL’s top doubles duo of Bella Stigall and Mallory Pride pummeled Paige Sentney and Erin Burkhardt 6-0, 6-0 at No.1 and improved to 14-1 as a tandem this season. Kenley Craig and Izzy Alldredge handled Taylor Harsin and Hailey Jenkins 6-3, 6-0 at No.2.

In singles, Emily Duncan cruised past Trinity Stoner 6-1, 6-1 at No.2, and Becca Epping rolled over Grace Pittman 6-1, 6-4 at No.3.

“We were just the better team tonight,” BNL coach Joni Stigall said. “Our doubles were obviously dominant, and really we were at singles as well.

“Overall it was a good win on a long night with a long bus ride.”

The Cubs prevailed at No.1 singles with Kourtney Neukam edging Rachel Kidd 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.
