Mitchell Police make drug arrest on a speeding stop

 MITCHELL– Mitchell police arrested 53-year-old Larry Heinz, of 2280 Maul Ridge Rd., on drug charges and a warrant after they stopped his vehicle for speeding.

Heinz was arrested on charges of possession of meth, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also arrested on a warrant for operating a vehicle while intoxicated controlled substance and OWI with a prior conviction within five years.

On Wednesday at 4:44 p.m. an officer was running radar in the medial of State Road 37 when he noticed a silver SUV southbound on State Road 37 traveling at 73 miles per hour in a 60 mile per hour zone and stopped Heinz’s vehicle. 

The officer then learned Heinz was wanted on a warrant and he was detained.

The officer also detected the strong odor of marijuana omitting from the vehicle.

In a backpack in the vehicle, officers found a clear baggie containing marijuana, two plastic containers, and a baggie that contained several different pills including Xanax and suboxone that he did not have a prescription for. They also found a smoking device that contained meth residue along with two plastic baggies containing crystal meth.

The total weight of the marijuana seized was 7.30 grams. The total weight of the methamphetamine from the two plastic baggies weighed 1.80 grams.
