One person injured in an accident on State Road 37

BEDFORD – One person was injured in a two-vehicle accident Thursday on State Road 37 near 16th Street.

According to a Bedford Police report, both drivers claimed to have the right of way.

Michael Potter, 39, of Bedford, was traveling west on 16th Street approaching State Road 37 and told police he had the green light to proceed through the intersection.

Amy Perkins, 36, of Bedford, was traveling east on 16th Street approaching the intersection and was attempting to turn left (north) on State Road 37. She told police she had the green light and proceeded through the intersection

Perkins told police she had plenty of time to complete the left turn and said she didn’t see Potter’s 1997 Honda Accord.

Potter told police as he proceeded through the intersection, Perkins turned her 2015 Dodge Caravan into the path of his vehicle.

The two vehicles collided.

One witness told police they were driving behind Perkins and said Perkins had plenty of time to make the turn and that Porter must have been speeding.

Another witness told police they were traveling behind Potter and stated that Perkins turned into the path of Potter’s vehicle.

Perkins complained of wrist pain and suffered a possible broken wrist and was transported by a Seals ambulance to IU Health Hospital for treatment.

Her two passengers, who were children, were restrained in car seats and were not injured.

Potter refused medical treatment.
