Bedford man arrested after causing a disturbance

BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested after Bedford Police were summoned Thursday to the 1510 block of Q Street for a possible suicidal man.

When police arrived at 5:30 p.m. they found 31-year-old Justin Collins stumbling in the roadway and pulling on vehicle’s door handles.

Police approached Collins who was intoxicated. The officers noticed he was bleeding from his hands and he was covered in paint.

Collins told police he was not suicidal and had no intentions of hurting himself.

Collins then became extremely irate and began yelling at his neighbors.

Collins’ girlfriend arrived on the scene and Collins was told to go inside the house with her and stay there.

At approximately 5:46 p.m. An officer was patrolling in the area of 15th and Q streets and found Collins exit his front door yelling.

Police say Collins was extremely upset and punched the glass window on his front door causing it to shatter and cut his arm.

Collins continued to throw things and scream and yell profanities.

Collins was warned to calm down and stop yelling. An IU Health Hospital ambulance responded to the scene to treat Collins’ injuries. He denied medical treatment.

He was again left in the care of his girlfriend.

 At approximately 6:14 p.m. an officer was at the intersection of 15th and  Q streets when he  witnessed Collins exit his house and walk into the middle of the road. Collins then began  throwing items into the roadway causing a traffic hazard. The officer stopped Collins and arrested him on charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
