Child injured after riding a bicycle into the path of a vehicle

BEDFORD – A child was injured after he rode his bicycle into the path of a vehicle Sunday afternoon at the intersection of I and 22nd streets.

The accident was reported at 3:49 p.m.

According to a Bedford Police report, 79-year-old Sharon Kern, of Bedford, had stopped her 2016 silver Ford Escape at the stop sign at I and 22nd streets. She did not see any other vehicle at the intersection. She proceeded forward and then heard a dog barking and looked at the dog.

That is when she struck a bicycle being ridden by 8-year-old Hunter Lee, of Bedford.

Hunter told police he was riding down the hill on 22nd Street and did not stop at the stop sign because he didn’t see any cars and rode into the path of Kern’s car.

Witnesses told police, Kern stopped at the stop sign and the child did not.

Hunter, who suffered minor bleeding to his arm and knee was transported by ambulance to IU Health Hospital for treatment.
