New FACET award named for James E. Mumford

BLOOMINGTON – The IU Faculty Academy on Excellence in Teaching, or FACET, is soliciting nominations for a new award.

The Dr. James E. Mumford Excellence in Extraordinary Teaching Awards will recognize IU Bloomington faculty members who have excelled as teachers during extraordinary circumstances. The award is named in the memory of James E. Mumford (1936-2019), who built an esteemed career first as director of the IU Soul Revue and later as the longtime director of the African American Choral Ensemble. Mumford earned his doctorate in music education from the IU Jacobs School of Music and was an active member of FACET.

All IU Bloomington full-time, part-time and adjunct faculty are eligible for nomination, and nominees do not need to be FACET members. Self-nominations are also welcome.

The deadline for submissions is April 30. Recipients will be announced in early May.
