WHITLEY CO. – A six-month-long rape investigation conducted by the Indiana State Police concluded early Sunday morning, with the apprehension and arrest of 25-year-old Mathew J. Clark, of Albion.

The ISP investigation began back in October 2020, after Indiana State Police Detective Andrew Mills received information regarding an allegation that Clark had raped an 18 -year-old Whitley County female at the Deniston camping area in June 2020. The Deniston camping area is located on West Lincoln Highway in Larwill, IN.
Detective Mill’s completed investigation was turned over to the Whitley County Prosecutor’s Office, and on March 4th an arrest warrant was issued by the Whitley County courts for Clark’s arrest. Upon receiving the warrant, Troopers immediately went to Clark’s residence in Albion, but discovered that he had fled the area.
Master Trooper Joe McLaughlin and Master Trooper Brian Kreger (Fort Wayne Post) took on the assignment of tracking Clark’s whereabouts. Their due diligence and continued efforts paid off this past Sunday morning, as they developed information suggesting that Clark was staying at a residence in the 16000 block of Southern Meadows Blvd, Mishawaka. Assisted by Senior Trooper Ben Ennis (Bremen Post) and Sgt. Andy Smith (Fort Wayne Post), the four were able to locate Clark at the residence and take him into custody without incident.
Clark was transported back to the Whitley County Jail, where he was booked into custody, and remains held on a $100,000 bond pending a court appearance.
