LEESVILLE – Firefighters from Shawswick and Pleasant Run Township Volunteer Fire Departments battled a 20-acre wildland fire Friday evening on US 50 East near the intersection of Backcreek Road.

A property owner was burning a field when the flames got very high and he became concerned the flames would reach the powerlines.

Firefighters were on the scene for more than an hour using four brush rigs, ATV’s and tankers to get the fire under control.

Firefighters stated that some of the flames were more than ten feet high.
