Fatal accident claims lives of two Carlisle teens

CARLISLE – Two teens were killed Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon.

The accident happened at the intersection of US 41 and State Road 58 near Carlisle.

According to Indiana State Police, both 18-year-old Shelby Horton and 16-year-old Connor Rodriguez, both of Carlisle, died from their injuries.

According to Indiana State Police, Horton was driving eastbound on State Road 58 when she failed to stop for the stop sign at US 41. She reportedly drove into the path of a 2007 semitrailer driven by 38-year-old Timothy Sarver, of Terre Haute who was traveling northbound on US 41.

Sarver applied his brakes and attempted an evasive driving maneuver but was unable to avoid the collision.

The force of the collision caused both vehicles to leave the road.

Horton and a passenger in Rodriguez were both killed in the crash.

Sarver was not injured.

Drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the crash.

The accident was reconstructed by Senior Trooper Tim Rader of Putnamville State Police Post. Assisting were the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, Sullivan County Coroner’s Office, SCAT Ambulance Service, Haddon Township Volunteer Fire Department, Sullivan City Fire Department and Edington’s Wrecker Service.
