Due to the pandemic, the students used the Scripps Online Testing Platform to complete the spelling/vocabulary test. The students were monitored by a teacher while taking the test, and they were allowed 30 minutes any time from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on March 5th.

Yena will receive the Samuel Louis Sugarman Award, a U.S. Mint Proof Set, and a one-year subscription to Merriam-Webster Unabridged Online, the bee’s official dictionary.

This is Yena’s third time participating in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Nationals will be held July 8th in Orlando, Florida, at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort. The final rounds, including 10 to 12 spellers, will be offered in-person and will follow the preliminary, quarterfinal, and semifinal rounds of the spelling bee.
