Bedford man arrested after pursuit

BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested Saturday after he fled from police after they attempted to stop him for speeding on State Road 37.

A Bedford police officer attempted to stop a Ford F-150 for speeding at State Road 37 and 29th Street, however the driver failed to stop.

The driver accelerated faster and other officers joined the pursuit at State Road 37 and 39th Street. Speeds reached more than 80 miles per hour.

Police say the driver was weaving in and out of traffic making several lane changes and turned west on US 50 West.

The driver then turned north on Kings Ridge Road and stopped.

Officers made a felony traffic stop drawing their guns and ordering the driver from the vehicle.

Craig Holt

The driver, was identified as 43-year-old Craig Holt, of Port Williams Rd.

Hout and a male passenger were detained. When Holt was asked why he didn’t stop for police he said, “because I’m dumb” and he felt like he was being “profiled” by police because they had been parked outside his place of employment.

A K-9 alerted officers to possible drugs in the pickup. During a search of the vehicle officers found nothing illegal.

Holt was arrested on charges of resisting arrest by fleeing in a vehicle, reckless driving, driving while his driver’s license was suspended with a prior conviction and issued a citation for speed. His passenger was released.
