Animals perish in early morning fire on Cory Lane

MONROE CO. – The Monroe Fire Protection District was called to the 700 block of Cory Lane in Shady Acres Trailer park, at little before 1:00 a.m. this morning.

Fire units arrived to find fire and smoke coming from the home.

The homeowner confirmed that everyone was out of the residence, but animals were still inside the home.

“Firefighters using a fire hose were able to knock down a large portion of the fire until more fire units were able to arrive. This allowed the fire to keep from spreading deeper into the home,” said Jason Allen Battalion Chief Monroe Fire Protection District.

“Firefighters searched for the animals still inside the home, but unfortunately the animals did not make it,” said Allen.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Monroe Fire Protection District was assisted on the scene by IU Health Ambulance Service, Monroe County Sheriff Office, and Duke Energy.
