Indianapolis Man Arrested on Drug Charges

(BEDFORD) – An Indianapolis man was arrested Wednesday night after an Indiana State Police trooper investigating a report of a burglary in progress in the 1340 block of Coveyville Road stopped his vehicle.

The caller reported a suspicious black SUV with several people removing items from the home.

The trooper stopped the Chevrolet Suburban pulling a trailer. The vehicle was registered to 33-year-old Jacob Lane.

The female passenger, told the trooper she was evicted from the home and had returned to the home to remove personal belongings. She also stated she gained access to the residence in question with her own. The items and appliances taken from the home were placed in Lane’s Suburban and borrowed trailer.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies contacted the homeowner to see who had recently rented the home.

Meanwhile the trooper and officers with the vehicle noticed several baggies that contained Xanax bars and more than 6 grams of marijuana in plain view. A gram of of crystal meth was found in one of the pill bottles. The officers also found numerous unused syringes.

Lane was in personal possession of $1,370 in cash and three cell phones.

The female first reported to the police the drugs and syringes belonged to her. Later she changed her story saying Lane had asked her to “take the fall for him”.

Lane finally told police he was aware of the drugs and syringes in the vehicle but said the drugs were not his. He told police he was currently enrolled in treatments at the methadone clinic in Bloomington. Lane also stated he had a card permitting him to possess needles. He then told police he thought the Xanax bars were possibly fake, made in a pill press.

Lane was arrested and transported to jail on charges of possession of meth, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana.

At this time, no further information is available regarding the possible burglary.
