Bedford Woman Issued Summons After Stealing From Walmart

(BEDFORD) – A Bedford woman was issued a summons to appear in court after she was caught scanning lower priced items for those with a higher price.

Bedford Police officers issued 46-year-old Melissa Chester, of Bedford, a summons to appear in court on a charge of theft.

According to Police Chief Terry Moore, on Monday, a loss prevention employee witnessed Chester scan lower priced items in place of higher priced items.

The employee was able to stop the transaction after an employee asked Chester if she could help her.

Chester denied the help and proceeded to a different self-checkout register and scanned the lower priced item again in place for the higher-priced item.

After she finished checking out, she was stopped by a loss prevention employee, and police were called.
