(VIGO CO.) – Vigo County Sheriff John Plasse confirmed Thursday morning that 102 inmates being housed at the Vigo County Jail have COVID-19.
Eleven other inmates have been tested and are waiting on results.
Sheriff Plasse said all of the inmates have been segregated and are in the care of the jail medical staff and are in stable condition.
Until this week there were no positive COVID-19 case in the facility.
Two correctional officers have also tested positive. Those two staff members will remain in quarantine until they are cleared to return to work.
Last week, Sheriff Plasse said an elderly inmate died after testing positive for the virus; however, the coroner has not confirmed the official cause of death.
