Boys & Girls Club Of Lawrence County Release Guidelines For Its Basketball Season

(BEDFORD) – The Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County has released its guidelines for this year’s basketball season.

“These guidelines of course are subject to change depending on issues with the number of COVID cases or local health department guidelines,” said Frank Decker, Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County. “We are also still early in the season and there may need to be adjustments to the schedule, but we are anxious to get the season started for a favorite pastime of Indiana youth.”

“Please understand that these protocols are in place to do our part in allowing the kids and everyone involved to be as safe as possible,” said Billy Neal, Athletic Director Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County. “Thank you in advance for your participation and your help in following the guidelines to allow a positive experience for all parties.”

“We hope you understand how important following these guidelines are, as we continue to navigate together through these strange times in our lives,” Neal added. “Please respect our wishes and the requirements and follow them at all times for the safety of our spectators, players, officials, and staff so we can continue to play this great game. We will do our best to have each league play at the same location throughout the season.”

Listed below are the guidelines and information that will need to be followed for the league.

COACHES, PLAYERS, ALL SPECTATORS, AND COACHES HAVE TO WEAR A MASK AT ALL TIMES!

It is REQUIRED that anyone entering the facilities needs to wear a mask. You will not be allowed to enter the facility without one. This is solely an added protection for all. Players may take their masks off once they reach their court. Once the game has ended, please put the mask on until you exit the facility.

  • We are asking that all coaches, spectators, and players pre-screen before arriving and entering the facility. Any coach or player that has symptoms or a fever will need to stay at home.
  • Please don’t enter the facilities until 15 minutes prior to game time. Games won’t start early!
  • We will provide the game balls and two balls per team to warm up with. Please do not bring your child’s ball to their game.
  • We are asking that each team stay together in isolated areas prior to their game and wait until both teams clear from the previous game before taking the floor.
  • NO HANDSHAKES AFTER THE GAME! There are other ways to show sportsmanship and acknowledge respect for your opponent. A simple “great game” or “air fist bumps” would do the job.
  • Please leave your court immediately upon completion of your game.
  • If your team is not playing, please exit the facility promptly.

SPECTATORS

  • It is REQUIRED that anyone entering the facilities needs to wear a mask. You will not be allowed to enter the facility without one. This is solely an added protection for all. Players and coaches may take their masks off once they reach their court. Once the game has ended, please put the mask on until you exit the facility.
  • We will follow all guidelines as to the number of people allowed at each facility.
  • Teams can enter the facilities 15 minutes prior to game time.
  • If your team is not playing, please exit the facility until your next game time.
  • Social distancing principles will be followed at all times.
  • Individuals 65 and over or those in high-risk categories should not attend.

Staff

  • All Boys and Girls Club and Teen Center staff will be pre-screened and checked for symptoms and fever. Staff members must have a temperature of 100 degrees and below and be symptom-free to be on site.
  • All staff will wear facemasks
  • Hand sanitizer will be available to use regularly during the day for all staff
  • members.

COURT OF PLAY

  • Game officials will be screened before they will be allowed to take their court and must be symptom-free and have a temperature of 100 degrees or below.
  • Once a game ball is chosen, it will be wiped down before the game and again after each quarter for sanitation.
  • Each team will be required to have a bookkeeper or scorekeeper for each game. They will be able to social distance with the 6 feet long tables we will place on each floor.
  • We will do our best to keep the game times as close as possible. Playing back to back at times will be applied and scheduled in as many cases as possible. This will allow minimal gym time, for all, while their team is not in action on the floor.
  • It is REQUIRED that anyone entering the facilities needs to wear a mask. You will not be allowed to enter the facility without one. This is solely an added protection for all. Players may take their masks off once they reach their court. Once the game has ended, please put the mask on until you exit the facility.
  • Every person who enters the building, upon going to their court will be required to sign in and sign a COVID19 waiver. NO EXCEPTIONS!! This also will help with contact tracing.
  • Clean your hands often, either with soap and water for 20 seconds or a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Hand sanitizer will be found throughout the building.
  • There will be no bleachers!!! Each spectator can and is encouraged to bring their own chair or preferred way of seating. Designated seating areas will be clearly marked once you are inside.
  • The admission area will be located inside the front doors. Social distancing will be followed.
  • There will be marked areas for entering and exiting the facility.
  • Please keep the hall areas clear to allow for foot traffic to flow easily and keeping social distancing.
  • Spectators will be allowed to enter the facility 15 minutes before the game. Upon completion of games, all spectators and players need to exit the facility as soon as their game is over.
  • Restrooms will be open and cleaned thoroughly throughout the weekend.
  • Concessions will be available with limited foods and bottled drinks.
