South sweeps BNL for sectional title

BNL’s Cameron Gratzer and the Stars fell to No.24 Bloomington South in the sectional final on Friday.

BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington South dropped only two games in singles while rolling past Bedford North Lawrence 5-0 in the championship match of the Bloomington South sectional on Friday afternoon.

The Panthers, ranked No.24, won their third straight sectional title and 29th in program history.

South’s Michael Asplund swept past Adam Tlustek 6-0, 6-0 at No.1 singles, Chris Lian topped Steven Graham 6-0, 6-0 at No.2, and Evan Kantor stopped Graham Turner 6-0, 6-2 at No.3.

BNL got off to solid starts in doubles before the Panthers took charge. Marcel Borhi and Ethan Uhls defeated Konley Woodward and Cameron Gratzer 6-2, 6-0 at No.1, while John Beggs and Sahil Desai tackled Nate Pemberton and Caleb Jones 6-2, 6-2 at No.2.

“Doubles won the first game of the first set and both also went up 2-1,” BNL coach Donnie Thomas said. “They were copying each other, before the wheels came off. But they still played well and had a lot of good points.”

The Stars finished the season with a 14-9 record.
