Stars claim consolation in Edgewood tourney

ELLETTSVILLE – Bedford North Lawrence swept past Edgewood 5-0 in the consolation round of the Edgewood Invitational during boys high school tennis action on Saturday.

The Stars fell to Mooresville 4-1 in the first round.

BNL (9-6) dropped only 11 games in the five matches against the Mustangs. Adam Tlustek paced the singles with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Lincoln Hammond at No.1, Steven Graham blitzed Josiah Hinson 6-0, 6-1 at No.2, and Graham Turner toppled Gavin Norris 6-2, 6-0 at No.3.

In doubles, Cameron Gratzer and Konley Woodward whacked Zeke Weisner and Quinn Norris 6-1, 6-0 at No.1, while Caleb Jones and Nate Pemberton stopped Nick McBride and Chris Bitner 6-1, 6-3 at No.2.

In the opener, the Pioneers (8-7) swept the doubles while clipping the Stars.

Logan Prather and Caden Bradley bounced Gratzer and Woodward 6-3, 6-2 at No.1, while Jake Murphy and Darrin Cummins cruised past Jones and Pemberton 6-0, 6-1 at No.2.

In singles, Peyton Wilson downed Tlustek 6-2, 6-1 at No.1 and Sawyer Flinn fought past Turner 6-4, 7-6 (7-3 in the tiebreaker) at No.3. Graham had the lone win for the Stars, thumping Joel Hammon 6-1, 6-1 at No.2.

BNL will visit Paoli on Monday.
