Bedford Woman Arrested On Domestic Battery Charges

(BEDFORD) – A Bedford woman was arrested on domestic battery charges after Lawrence County Sheriff Department deputies were called to a home in the 620 block of Murray Holt Road Thursday night.

Police arrested 34-year-old Shanta Bowman, on a charge of domestic battery in the presence of a minor.

When deputies arrived at just after 8 p.m. they were met by Dillon Richardson. Richardson was wanted on a warrant out of Ohio.

Richardson told police he was playing in the sandpit with his son. He says Bowman had been drinking alcoholic beverages and taking illegal narcotics when she became angry and started hitting Richardson and grabbed
him by the throat from behind causing injuries to his neck and jaw. He then swung his elbow around and hit her in the left side of the face causing
her to have injuries to the left side of her face.

Richardson told police Bowman then got in their truck and drove off.

Bowman told police she was with her son in the sand when Richardson got angry because his brother was selling suboxone and started hitting her from behind so she turned and hit him with a closed fist on the jaw. After hitting him she ran away and called 911.

While police were speaking to Bowman she passed out and was taken by ambulance to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital for treatment. After being released she was transported to jail.

Richardson was transported to IU Health Hospital for treatment. He suffered a broken jaw and would need extensive surgery. He was not arrested at the time due to the severity of his injuries and a warrant was requested for his arrest on a charge of domestic battery.
