Intersection Of State Road 203, State Road 256, Hardy Lake Road To Close Monday In Scott County

(SCOTT CO.) – Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Milestone Contractors will extend the current closure on State Road 256 east of Austin in Scott County to include the intersection of State Road 203, State Road 256 and Hardy Lake Road on or after Monday, July 13.

Under the closure, the existing intersection will be rebuilt and widened to include left-turn lanes. The intersection will be closed for up to 60 days, through mid-September, weather permitting.

The official detour for the entire contract will be adjusted to follow U.S. 31 to S.R. 56 to S.R. 3 (previously S.R. 203). Access to homes and businesses within the closure will be maintained for local traffic only.

During the closure, there will be no access to Hardy Lake from S.R. 256. Those who wish to access the lake and campground may use Sunnyside Road/Harrod Road to the east, Booe Road/Bogardus Road/Harrod Road to the west, or access points from S.R. 3.

As a reminder, S.R. 256 is closed to thru traffic and remains an active construction zone. Paving operations may begin as early as next week between U.S. 31 and S.R. 203. Motorists are urged to slow down, use extra caution and drive distraction-free through all work zones. All thru traffic should utilize an alternate route.

Work began last spring on the $17.6 million contract. State Road 256 is currently expected to open to traffic in November.
