Obituary: Darrell Lee Smith

June 19, 1939 – June 29, 2020

Darrell Lee Smith born on June 19, 1939, in Bridgeport, Illinois went home to be with the Lord on June 29, 2020, at the age of 81.

He graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1956. Darrell spent many years working with Indiana County Highway Departments. He was the former owner of CPI Supply in Bedford, Indiana and was currently working with his son-in-law at E3 Bridge.

He met and married the love of his life, Cindy Campbell Smith, in November 1968. They had a love like no other. They were blessed to have 4 children. Tammy Smith McCall (Greg) of Lawrenceburg, KY, Steven Douglas Smith (deceased), Brian James Smith (Cindy) of St. Simons Island, GA and Dana Lea Smith Martin (Sam) of Springville, Indiana.

Darrell enjoyed the love and entertainment of his 8 grandchildren; Claire McCall Osbourne (Nick), Rachel McCall, Bryce Martin, Abbey Smith Frederick (Dan), Cody Martin, Devyn Martin, Tyler Smith, and Ethan Smith, along with 4 great-grandchildren; Nolan, Lydia, and Wade Osbourne and Callie Grace Martin.

Darrell was a long-time member of Hillcrest Christian Church in Bedford and was a current member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church, Bloomington, IN. He showed love to everyone he met. To know him was to love him, and his laugh and zest for life were magnetic. He was a true man of God and spent his last days making sure others knew the importance of a life with Christ. We know he is celebrating in heaven today with the many friends and loved ones that have gone before him.

He is preceded in death by his parents Leslie and Beatrice Smith; his son Stevie; his sisters Pearl Ready, Margie Perry, Marie Wolfe and brothers Ralph Smith, Gene Smith, and Bud Smith.

He is survived by his wife Cindy, his sister Carolyn Parrott, his 3 children, 8 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

We are not sad for him, but for us. Thank you for your example on this earth and we will continue your work here on earth until we all are together again for eternity.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 2nd from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Sherwood Oaks Bedford Campus. Funeral services will be Friday, July 3rd at 1 p.m. with a short time of visitation before service starting at 12 Noon. No graveside service will be observed.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy be made through donations to the Men’s Warming Shelter of Bedford, IN.
